CRE8 Week Five: Beliefs and Attitudes for Scouts and Explorers

CRE8 Week Five

Well done everyone, we are at week five! I hope you have been enjoying the challenges so far. This weeks challenge comes from Jane Leadbetter Assitant County Commissioner (Beavers).

We will be focusing on beliefs and attitudes to explore the world around us and embrace the diversity and differences in our community.

Beliefs and attitudes activities for Scouts and Explorers.

Overall challenge: to explore our Scouting values, personal attitudes and beliefs in this time of uncertainty. How can we make a positive contribution to the situation we find ourselves in?

We are washing our hands a lot at the moment, which is important. This week we are using a soapy solution to experiment with and discover how we can make a positive contribution to the situation we find ourselves in.

You will need:

  • a wipe-clean surface (table, plastic cloth, tray, plate)
  • bubble mixture in a tall beaker,
  • a paper straw,
  • a water spray bottle.

Spray water over the table/wipe clean cloth. Dip the straw in the bubble mixture and blow a bubble onto the table surface. It will form a dome shape. Bubbles love being wet. They hate being dry. If you touch a bubble with anything dry, it will pop. Keep the table wet and the straw wet with bubble mixture. How big a bubble can you blow until it evaporates?

Next, dip the straw in the bubble mixture again and blow a bubble on the wet table. Then, dip the straw once more, making sure it is wet all over, and push the straw through the bubble and blow another bubble. Then, dip the straw in the bubble mixture again and repeat for every member of your family who is protecting each other in your home. I wonder how many bubbles you can blow inside each other.

At the moment, we need to be apart from people, but we also need to care for those closest to us. This week we think about those at home with us. How can we stick together through this difficult time?

As you blow a bubble, say thank you for someone in your household.

As you blow a bubble, think of one way to be more helpful to someone in your household.

As you blow a bubble, is there anyone you need to say sorry to?

Your home could be like a dome, protecting you and your family. We can stay home and stay safe. By caring for each other and co-operating with the guidelines we have been given, we are displaying our Scouting values.
