Happy Holidays: Celebration across Faiths
At this time of year, some of our members look forward to celebrating Christmas, however it is important to remember that not all of our members celebrate the period in the same way.
A very wide variety of multi-national festivals and holidays are celebrated around the world, all year round; whether within particular religions, cultures, or otherwise. Between the beginning of November and the end of January; there are around 29 different celebrations observed by 7 of the world’s major faiths.
Some of our members may not have a particular faith and many will celebrate religious festivals of their own faith. Our members are diverse, and so the celebrations are all different.
Toxteth Salaam Scout Group in Liverpool South District is just one of our Scout Groups whose members’ are primarily, but not exclusively, Muslim. The Group opened in 2017, and has continued to grow at a fast pace, in both young people and adult volunteers.
The Group makes good use of the programme which delivers skills for life, whilst maintaining a strong identity relating to a shared belief. The Scout Group comprises of a Beaver, Cub and Scout sections, and shares the same values that we develop in all young people in Scouting.
Opening Scout Groups in new communities is important to us. We’re talking Scouting to communities that may have had the opportunity to benefit from Scouting before and we know that the sharing of beliefs and experiences different between individuals is vital for a person’s development.
Through 2019, we plan to continue to be able to increasingly reflect the communities that we are part of, and support those communities.
