In 30 years time, there'll be more plastic than fish in our oceans! We want to do our bit to change that.

We're joining forces with Ecobricks, the Global Ecobrick Alliance and challenge our young people and adults to help us build our supply of Ecobricks.

Interesting fact: in 30 years time there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish!

Ecobricks are plastic bottles full of tiny pieces of plastic. When full and of a certain weight, they become bricks/blocks for building!

We are encouraging Beaver Scout Colonies (and other Sections) to fill 2-litre bottles with plastic and to aim for a 660g weight.

It is hoped that we can build things such as park benches for the community and a bothy at Tawd Vale Adventure Centre.  There are some great ideas on the Ecobricks website.

Areas of the Beaver Scout programme taking part in this project would support include:

  • Creative Activity Badge
  • Community Impact Activity Badge
  • Global Issues Activity Badge.

Our Assistant County Commissioner for Beaver Scouts, Jane Leadbetter, is visiting District Beaver Scout Leader Meetings to talk about the project and practical ways you can get involved.

The Ecobrick experience can change family lifestyles and if we adopt plastic free homes then less and less ecobricks will need to be created.
