Introducing our Youth Commissioner Team: Alex Clark.
In this series of blogs, we introduce members of our Youth Commissioner team. First up, this should help you get to know Alex Clark, one of our Deputy County Youth Commissioners, a little better.
Alex, how are you feeling about being one of our new Merseyside Deputy County Youth Commissioners?
I’m really excited, I think myself, Ben and Kieran will make a great team and we’re all really looking forward for what’s to come.
What attracted you to becoming part of the Youth Commissioner team?
Youth shaped Scouting is something I’m very passionate about and I think it forms the basis for a lot of what we do in Scouting. I’m hoping that this role will allow me to celebrate the amazing Youth Shaped work going on across the County and support even more of it to happen.
Tell our members a bit about yourself?
I am in my final year of University as a trainee Primary School teacher. Scouting played a massive part in me deciding to become a teacher and I absolutely love it. I started my Scouting in Crosby District as a Cub and have gone through the sections to become an assistant Beaver and Cub leader. I have had some amazing experiences through Scouting that have shaped who I have become as an adult.
I am also involved in Scouting in Humberside where I am part of a fantastic team who run the ‘Yorkshire Agoonoree’, an annual Scout camp for Scouts 11-25 with additional needs. I love the work I’m a part of with this team, providing skills for life and unforgettable experiences for young people who may not otherwise be given these opportunities outside of Scouting.
I am hoping that I can bring everything I have learned through these parts of my life, to my new role.
Last album you listened to?
The Greatest Showman.
If you could choose any meal what would it be?
Akela’s fish pie and Hathi’s brownies!!!
If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning medal for?
Taking photos! I take a crazy amount but photos have captured some of my best memories so I will never stop.
What could you give a 40-minute presentation on with absolutely no preparation?
My experiences with the Yorkshire Agoonoree. I have had some of the best times of my life on those camps with such incredible young people. I could talk about it all day.
What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
A skydive! Me and my best friend both did a tandem skydive last year as a fundraiser and it was one of the best experiences of our lives (after we got over the fear!).
What is something that your friends would consider “so you”?
Sleeping through all 7 of my alarms, every day!
What can you not get right, no matter how many times you try?
Parallel parking, if someone is in the car with me! I think I get stage fright haha.
Do you have a claim to fame?
Does being the Angel Gabriel in the Nativity count?
Ever met a famous person?
I met One Direction at a book signing once. 13-year-old me was THE most excited human being on the planet that day haha.
If you could make a 20 second phone call to yourself at any point in your life past or future, when would you call and what would you say?
I’d tell my past self to keep going and chase every single dream!
