Week Three TY2TT: Fitness activities for Beavers and Cubs
Welcome to week three of our Taking You to The Top challenge. This is a programme to help with scouting at home and continuing to work towards your top awards.
Week 3 - Fitness (This will link to Skills Challenge Awards & Skills element of Chief Scout Platinum & Diamond)
Choose 1, this can be done across all sections tailored to suit age range
Get on Your Bike!: Complete a bike ride with a family member or on own, learn how to look after bike (pump tyre, fix puncture, oil chain etc).
Time to Run!: Complete 3 Runs of different distances, measure your heart rate before and after.
Fruity Facts: Let these fruity facts give you food for thought in this healthy eating true-or-false quiz
Groovy Smoothies: Set your taste buds grooving and moving and craft delicious healthy smoothies.
Egg-cellent-teeth: Find out how different drinks affect your teeth using this egg-cellent eggs-periment
Strengthen muscles and bones
Ten Minute Shake Ups: Join Change4Life and Disney for fun bursts of fitness
Five Minute Moves for children with the Body Coach
A-maze-ing Sleep: Learn how to avoid bad habits that affect sleep
Blind as a fruit bat: Taste different fruit and veg while blindfolded and try to guess correctly what they are if possible, try fruit and veg that you haven’t tried before.
All about you: Learn all about how the human body works
Beat the bleep: See if you can beat the bleep by trying the bleep test. You will need to find a space about 10 meters long.
Simply, the test involves running back and forth between two points 10m apart. Each run must be synchronised with a pre-recorded audio track, which plays beeps at regular intervals.
Over the course of the test, you will progress up through various levels (lasting just over a minute each), with the beeps getting faster at each new level reached. At the point where you do not reach the line before the beep, this becomes your highest score and the test is over.
Cosmic Yoga: Join in with a daily cosmic yoga session
Circuit training: Take part in a proper warm up and warm down routine, using all the main muscle groups. An adult will need to lead the routine
Complete a session of circuit training spending 1minute on each station before moving on the next complete as many rounds as you are able to. (See activity cards)
Lets go fly a kite: on your daily exercise fly a kite you have made
Become a walk and talk ambassador: Get outside, go for a walk and use chatterboxes to start conversations about wellbeing
