Meet our Team
Chris Valentine-Burrows
County Lead Volunteer
Chris has been a member of The Scouts since he was 10 joining the 10th St Helens (1st Rainford) Scout Group. Chris’s first leadership role was at the 10th as an Assistant Scout Leader in 2007 before moving on to become an Explorer Scout Leader at Windle Wombles Explorer Scout Unit in 2011. Chris the went on to be the District Explorer Scout Commissioner (DESC) in 2015 and then District Commissioner for St Helens in 2017 ahead of taking up the role of County Lead Volunteer in May 2022.
Professionally Chris is a registered nurse with a clinical background in cancer care. Chris’s clinical speciality is complex chemotherapy in teenagers and young adults and acute oncology. Chris now works in the independent sector of healthcare as a Clinical Director leading the clinical teams in a busy surgical hospital. Outside of work and Scouts you can often find Chris walking with his dog, baking something sweet or spending time with family and friends.
Matthew Jones
County Team Leader – Volunteering Development
Matthew has been a member of The Scouts since he was 8 joining 1st Thurstaston as a Cub Scout. Matt’s first leadership role was as a Cub Scout Leader at 1st Thurstaston before becoming an Assistant Group Scout Leader, and then District Cub Scout Leader in West Wirral. Matt then moved across to Birkenhead where he became Assistant District Commissioner (Cub Scouts) and subsequently in 2017 became District Commissioner. In 2023 Matt joined the County Team as Deputy County Commissioner.
Professionally Matt is a Chartered Safety and Health Professional with a background in high footfall attractions such as Chester Zoo, Chester Racecourse, Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse, M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool Convention Centre, and Exhibition Centre Liverpool. Outside of work and Scouts you can find Matt in the pool, or if he isnt there he’s cooking up a storm in the kitchen!
